NanoMalaysia Berhad and Micratto Technologies Sdn Bhd today announced the successful completion and commercialisation of “Phenom Graphene,” a graphene-enhanced automotive lubricant under the Infinoil brand. Initiated in 2018, the project marks a significant milestone in the industry.

NanoMalaysia Berhad CEO Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad spoke on the project’s completion, stating, “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the automotive industry and also the energy sector, showcasing the potential of nanotechnology in enhancing vehicle performance and sustainability. We are excited to witness this project’s positive economic, environmental, and societal impacts. The National Energy Policy and National Energy Transition Roadmap have identified energy efficiency as an immediate term approach towards reduced carbon emission. Our energy efficient innovation is a response to that.”

“The newly developed lubricant showcases improved energy efficiency through remarkable advantages, including lower friction, higher heat dissipation, and increased oxidative stability thus promising lower carbon emission, a longer shelf life and extended engine lifespan. Despite its premium pricing, the product stands as a testament to the potential of nanotechnology in elevating the performance and efficiency of automotive engines.”

The Phenom Graphene automotive lubricant is now available for purchase, with plans to set up e-commerce platforms on Shopee and Lazada for seamless customer access. The product is priced between RM120-170 per 4L bottle, with a production count of 4,000 bottles to date.

This project signifies a technological breakthrough and substantially impacts the economy and society. The successful commercialisation of Phenom Graphene is expected to stimulate the local economy, fostering growth and creating job opportunities, thereby contributing to national GDP growth.

The global automotive engine oil market, valued at approximately USD 38.22 billion in 2023, is projected to witness steady growth, reaching an estimated valuation of USD 44.62 billion by 2027, according to ResearchAndMarkets.com. The Infinoil-Phenom Graphene product aims to capture a significant market share, mainly targeting high-end vehicles, offering superior performance and sustainable efficiency.

Micratto Technologies, a startup spearheaded by Prof Dr Mohammad Khalid (Sunway University), Dr Abdul Khaliq Rasheed (Xiamen University Malaysia) and Mr Muhammad Muzammil, has been at the forefront of developing advanced nanotechnology-based lubricants, coolants, and greases for industrial and automotive applications. This collaboration with NanoMalaysia Berhad has fostered innovation, leveraging the expertise of Sunway R&D Sdn Bhd to optimise the automotive lubricant infused with functionalised graphene, enhancing its stability and performance.

The project aligns with the PRECISE initiative introduced by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), embodying the principles of People-centric approaches, Research and Development, Enculturation, Capacity building, Investment, and nurturing the Startup Ecosystem. It promotes the culture of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI), encouraging the younger generation to venture into STEM fields.
