Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor (GHMJ) and the International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) have reaffirmed their shared commitment to the well-being of the community by collaborating to address crucial adolescent reproductive health issues. Recently, they organized an enlightening talk entitled ‘Empowering Educators to Address Adolescent Reproductive Health Issues’ at the Afiniti Medini, CIMB Leadership Academy in Iskandar Puteri. The event garnered active participation from more than 200 dedicated teachers representing primary and secondary schools across the state of Johor.

Featuring prominent experts in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, and Applied Psychology, the talk provided valuable insights and strategies for educators to address reproductive health issues among adolescents. The speakers highlighted the significance of knowledge and education as the foundation for informed decision-making. Open communication and safe spaces were emphasized during the talk, enabling early detection and intervention for improved academic performance and overall well-being of the youth.

Raising awareness among educators about the importance of addressing reproductive health issues faced by adolescents remains an important goal for GHMJ. By cultivating empathy and inclusivity, educators can foster a supportive classroom environment that promotes understanding and respect. Addressing mental health concerns was a pivotal aspect of the discussion. Equipping educators with tools to identify early signs of mental health challenges empowers them to offer timely support and intervention.

In his welcoming speech, Dr. Kamal Amzan, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles Hospital Medini Johor stated, “Through the collaboration between our hospital, schools, and the wider community, I am confident, that by addressing the challenges posed by cultural and social expectations, and fostering partnerships between the education and the health industry, we can create a comprehensive approach that supports students’ well-being and equips them with the knowledge, skills, and access to resources needed for a healthy reproductive life.”

GHMJ extends heartfelt gratitude to IWPG and all key speakers for their invaluable partnership and support in making this event possible. The dedication and expertise of Dr. Sharifah Halimah Jaafar, Dr. Norbelinda Norhatta, Dr. Rohaida Adam, Dr. Abdul Kadir Abu Bakar, Dr. Alexandriia See, Dr. Tey Shea Reen, and Ms. Ryaliratna Manjari have been instrumental in driving this crucial initiative.
