Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad (Bank Muamalat) today announced a strategic partnership with EzCab Sdn Bhd (EzCab) to accept cashless payments via Bank Muamalat DuitNow QR.
The collaboration provides an additional payment solution for EzCab customers from all banks and major e-wallets to pay for their taxi fares by using DuitNow QR through their respective mobile applications.
Bank Muamalat Chief Executive Officer, Khairul Kamarudin said with the launch, Bank Muamalat will enable EzCab taxi drivers in Malaysia to receive payments from customers via DuitNow QR besides cash payments.
“Currently, 1,000 EzCab taxi drivers are equipped with the Bank Muamalat DuitNow QR payment method,” said Khairul.
In December 2019, Bank Muamalat became the first Islamic bank to introduce the use of DuitNow QR Payment Platform. This is in line with the Bank’s strategic objective and direction to undertake comprehensive digital transformation of its banking services.
Meanwhile, EzCab Chief Executive Officer Raymond Yap said that the company has been at the forefront of enabling multiple cashless payment options in e-hailing services.
“Currently, EzCab has up to 10 types of payment acceptance methods, including cash, credit cards and multiple e-wallets. We are excited to enable the DuitNow QR to add another hassle-free cashless transaction method that’s both safe and secure to EzCab’s customer base through our collaboration with Bank Muamalat,” said Yap.
In line with the launch of the DuitNow QR solution, Bank Muamalat is giving out a special promo code worth RM3.00, exclusively for EzCab passengers with the Bank Muamalat DuitNow QR promo code: EZBMMB. This promo code is valid from 1 November 2020 to 30 April 2021 and shall limit up to 20,000 redemptions throughout the campaign period.
With this launch, Bank Muamalat continues its leading role in providing cutting-edge cashless payment solutions to the public. Previously, Bank Muamalat launched e-Derma, its own QR solution for donations to mosques in mid-2018, which has since expanded to almost 700 mosques nationwide.
In September 2019, Bank Muamalat launched e-wakaf via QR through a cash waqf management collaboration between Bank Muamalat and four states, namely Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan and Kedah.
Meanwhile e-Zakat via Bank Muamalat DuitNow QR, in a collaboration with seven state Islamic religious councils in Melaka, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Pahang Kelantan and Terengganu was introduced in April 2020. And e-Qurban via Bank Muamalat DuitNow QR was launched in July 2020 to enable electronic transactions for qurban, through a collaboration with 20 selected mosques and non-governmental organisation, Syria Care.
To date, Bank Muamalat has an over 4,400-strong QR merchant base who have migrated to the DuitNow QR platform.
