Second Edition Of International Project Management Conference Brought Together Project Leaders

The International Project Management Conference (IPMC) which was held on 12 – 13 December 2022 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre brought together 1,885 participants from the oil and gas, new energy, building and infrastructure, maritime and shipping, and digital industries for its first in-person event.

The conference delivered its delegates a rich content of two keynote sessions, two premiere dialogues, six parallel sessions and over 60 video presentations exploring thematic discussions on “The Era of Disruptive Technology and Sustainability”.


IPMC 2022 was jointly launched by the Secretary General, Ministry of Works, Malaysia, Dato’ Wira Wan Ahmad Uzir together with PETRONAS President and Group Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Tengku Muhammad Taufik. Accompanying them were PETRONAS Senior Vice President of Project Delivery and Technology (PD&T) Datuk Bacho Pilong, and IPMC 2022 Chairman, Noor Ilias Mohammad Idris who also is PETRONAS Vice President for Group Project Delivery, PD&T.

Delivering a keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Works, Dato’ Wira Wan Uzir urged, “In order to maintain business sustainability and provide the competitive edge, it is imperative that we continue to leverage on a digitalisation culture.” He added that sustainability is equally important which has profound impact on all.

Datuk Bacho Pilong reiterated in his welcome address, “As the energy transition accelerates in a race against climate change, visionary organisations reposition themselves to deliver a net zero future. Project leaders are therefore flagbearers of sustainable development towards this future that we envision.”

Beyond the conversations in the conference halls, IPMC 2022 gathered over 20 exhibiting companies which showcased their innovative solutions with interactive and immersive features. The closing ceremony featured International Project Management Association (IPMA) Award Ceremony which saw outstanding individuals receiving awards in categories such as Young Project Manager of the Year, Project Manager of the Year, and Agile Leader of the Year respectively.

The conference also saw new collaborations for sustainability established when PETRONAS and Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on capability building and knowledge sharing, while PETRONAS Technical Services Sdn Bhd (PTSSB) and Green Project Management (GPM Ltd. D.B.A GPM Global) will jointly work on sustainability in project management focusing on capability building, processes and practices, and change management under their MoU.
